I was impressed right from the start — Connor called me back promptly, and Jake came by shortly after to assess the work. Jake’s honesty and professionalism truly stood out, which is so rare these days. Even though it was a small job, he took the time to explain what needed to be done and, incredibly, suggested that my husband and I could tackle it ourselves. He even gave us some helpful tips! Wilkens Masonry and Upper Gage Ave I was looking at getting the foundation of my house parged and also have a chimney taken down that was no longer needed. I am always skeptical when searching for a contractor online but when I came across the Wilkens Contracting website that put my mind at ease. It was an easy , clear and readable website to navigate. Although I was looking for someone local within Hamilton, upon reading through the website they did service the Hamilton area. I loved that it wasn’t a franchise but a long standing family run business ! That gets my first vote ! From my first phone call with Connor to his brother Jake coming out for the estimate, they were friendly, pleasant and did not talk to me like I didn’t know what I was looking for. Jake arrived on the morning after my dog was skunked and his suggestions were very helpful and welcoming as I was pretty frazzled ! Anyway, Jake was more than honest, he told me straight up I did not require any foundation parging done on my house.. it was in great shape, he said don’t let anyone tell you anything different. Well that was music to my ears after the morning I had had. We then discussed the chimney removal and he said he would forward the quote via email. I got the email later that evening and was more than pleased with it. There was no rush on my part, just whenever they could fit me in, which turned out to be the following Friday . Wilkens Masonry and Heddington Ave A Job Well Done – Chimney Repair and Wall Tuckpointing My 1940s era house’s chimney and partial side wall were in bad shape. Especially. the mortar on our chimney was cracking and missing from the joints. It was a potential safety hazard. Two months ago, partial work was performed on the side wall, but it was very badly done by another contractor. Then, I contacted Wilkens Contracting Inc. Jake promptly responded back and came to review the job that I wanted done. The job involved scaffolding setup, chimney repair/tuckpointing; re-grinding down and clean out the old mortar joints and tuckpointing the side wall; parging a basement window sill, etc. I had several companies give me quotes, but I chose Jake as he came across as trustworthy, professional and a good communicator. His rate was competitive. Jake and his team workers, Cameron and Clark were extremely competent and courteous. They did a great job tuckpointing bricks and matching the mortar to the existing colour. Communication was open and honest. The actual project was done professionally and properly, no short cuts. Every step was explained to me in detail. The team was very professional, kept me in the loop on what they were doing and were courteous and respectful of my and my neighbours’ properties! Clean up was perfect. This time I had no headache or problem with the project. All in all, a pleasant undertaking. Professional work & excellent service. Best experience we had with trades in years. Wilkens Masonry and O’Connor Dr I Hired Wilkens to partially teardown a chimney that was in a bad state of repair that was becoming a safety concern. Wilkens showed great professionalism and customer care from the first phone call with Jake. He visited the same day to review and in detail chatted about our options. This helped us understand fully what to expect. Jake provided a quote the next day ($2990), Other chimney contractors provided a quote which was slightly higher than Wilkens. We had already decided to go with Wilkens because of there customer care and good reviews. I was then contacted by Frank to arrange a day for the work. Frank and Mike showed up on tine and explained what was going to happen, they worked all day and kept us up to date on the progress and completed the job on time and cleaned up the jobsite. Very professional. After the job was complete we noticed the top of the shorter chimney did not have a drip edge as the work order had said prepare the chimney for complete demolition. We contacted Wilkens and straight away was contacted by Jake saying he would return the following day to install the drip edge. He did this plus also opened up the back of the chimney to remove some brick debris that had fallen down the chimney onto the gas fire casing, This was not part of the quote and no additional charge was expected. This showed to us that Wilkens and Jake were not happy until the customer was completely satisfied even though they were not responsible for the debris. The chimney looks great and is now safe.
